Travelling through the Alentejo is to enter a territory where time spreads out calmly, but where every step echoes centuries of history. On this tour of Évora and Monsaraz, you'll immerse yourself in a day that combines iconic monuments, preserved traditions and the genuine flavours of the Alentejo.
We start in Évora, a walled city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Roman, medieval and Renaissance past coexist side by side with the tranquillity of the cobbled streets. Accompanied by a local guide, you'll visit the emblematic Chapel of Bones, an impressive space that invites reflection, the impressive Roman Temple, a rare vestige of the imperial presence, and the outside of the majestic Évora Cathedral, one of the largest medieval cathedrals in Portugal.
Strolling through Praça do Giraldo and visiting the Church of São Francisco, you'll feel the pulse of the city and realise why Évora has continued to inspire visitors for centuries.
The journey continues to Monsaraz, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval villages in Portugal. Its hilltop location offers breathtaking views of the Alqueva, and its narrow streets seem to whisper stories of times gone by. Here, traditional architecture meets the silence of the countryside and the intense light of the Alentejo.
The day ends with a toast. At the Ervideira Wine Shop, located in a former primary school that has been transformed into a place of charm and tradition, you'll taste carefully selected wines produced by one of the most renowned families in Alentejo viticulture.
More than just a walk, this is an experience to discover the Alentejo with all your senses - with time, flavour and meaning.
