Explore the remains of the Knights Templar in Portugal with a visit to Almourol Castle and the Convent of Christ, both located in Tomar.
Almourol Castle, built in the 12th century, is situated on a small island in the River Tagus and is one of Portugal's most emblematic medieval fortresses. Its history is closely linked to the Order of the Knights Templar and the defence of the territory during the Middle Ages. The view from the castle over the river is breathtaking and offers a unique experience.
The Convent of Christ in Tomar is one of Portugal's greatest wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This convent, which was the centre of the Order of the Knights Templar in Portugal, has impressive architecture that mixes Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance styles. The highlight is the Charola Temple, a circular space where the Templars used to meet.
As well as these monuments, discover the Church of Santa Maria do Olival and the Church of São João Batista, which form part of the city's historical and religious legacy.
With tickets included for Almourol Castle and the Convent of Christ, this is a complete experience for those who want to learn about the history and culture of Portugal during the Middle Ages.
